[Her voice is a little flatter than usual and she doesn't turn on the video like she normally does.]

Please be careful in the cold. Hopefully tomorrow will be better, but the welcome center does have extra coats and blankets to lend or give if anyone is without.

I'll be right over.

[She makes no attempt to tell him not to come out on this cold, cold evening. She really wants to see him as selfish as it is.]

The door is unlocked.

[He arrives soaked and cold but not the least bit concerned as he makes his way inside to where it's warmer, tossing his coat somewhere convenient before making his way around the house looking for her. He stops by her room first.]

[She looks up at him from the bed with watery eyes when he arrives at her open door. She reaches out for him.

Her puppy, Tumbles, knows something is wrong and instead of excitedly greeting Yuri, he remains near her side, dutifully.]

[He immediately joins her, pulling her into his arms without question, without invitation, without any hesitation on his part. In some way, he knows how she feels. Perhaps not loss, but he feels his own kind of guilt. He wants his closure, but instead the City's taken someone important from him. Again.]

[There may not have been a verbal invitation, but she couldn't be more grateful when he pulls her close. She holds on to his shirt tightly and buries her face against his shoulder.]

I'm so glad you're here. [Don't leave. Please don't ever leave!]

[He just holds her, now, enjoying her presence, doing his best to be strong for her and himself. He rests his head against hers, not saying a word for now.]

[Her cheek gets cold against him, but she doesn't pull away. Her eyes water, but she holds back the flood. Why? Why did he leave again?]

[His hand rubs slowly up her arm. He doesn't really know what to say. At all. And words won't change the situation, anyway. He knows this better than anyone.]

[It helps to just have him here. She can't feel so alone with Yuri holding her.] Yuri... [She finally breathes out softly.] I don't want to keep losing people. [Of course she doesn't and saying so won't keep it from happening, but she admits it all the same.]

It's like I said, isn't it?

[A light squeeze]

No matter how many people you lose, I won't leave until you do.

[He'll be right here for you every time.]

[She holds him a little tighter as a few tears escape to roll down her cheeks.] I love you, Yuri. [Even if it's a promise she knows he can't keep. It feels good to hear it.]

[He doesn't hear those words very often - if ever, not in this context. He'd long discarded the note Ino left him that read the very same words. I love you. He could sometimes hear her whispering it to him much like Euphie whispers it now. But it's different. He knows his boundaries. He knows how much this precious woman means to Suzaku, his friend. But still he rests his head on hers, still he feels this overwhelming need to protect her from a loneliness she'll probably never escape. Even now she's cold against him.

Everything clicks.]

You must have the wrong guy.

[She shakes her head against him lightly, tears still coming.] No.

[She's sure about this.] You're my best friend. [And she's never had one of those before. It's okay that Flynn is his and not hers. She doesn't mind sharing.]

[HE DOESN'T THINK HE DESERVES ANY OF THOSE RIGHT NOW. A sort of wry chuckle.]

You might regret that some day.

[Softly.] Why would you say that?

[He doesn't answer, just settling into silence]

Did something happen? [To him. She's only been thinking of herself since she realized Suzaku was gone.]

I hurt him.

[A wry smile. More than just a punch this time.]

Him? ...Do you mean Flynn?

I mean Flynn.

[His hands feel heavy, suddenly.]

What happened? [A gentle worried tone.]

I shot him.

[He pointed his index finger and thumb in the shape of a gun, aimed at the door and pretended to shoot.]

Don't know where it hit- but I intended to kill.

...You were cursed. [It's not really a question. She doesn't believe Yuri could have shot Flynn to kill him.]

What do you mean you don't know where it hit?

He fell through a glass wall as soon as I shot him. Left the City then, too.
